Thailand named ‘Best Destination – Asia Pacific’ in Travel Weekly Asia 2018 Readers’ Choice Awards
Bangkok, 19 October, 2018 – Thailand has another prestigious title to add to a trophy cabinet that is already brimming with numerous international accolades and awards won over the past couple of months. The kingdom was this week named ‘Best Destination – Asia Pacific’ in the Travel Weekly Asia 2018 Readers’ Choice Awards.
Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Governor, said: “Thailand’s worldwide popularity both with tourists and travel industry professionals who sell the destination continues to grow. This is evidenced in each international award Thailand earns, and the latest Readers’ Choice Award from Travel Weekly Asia is certainly no exception. It goes without saying that each and every one of these accolades is a true honour for Thailand.”
Last year, Thailand welcomed a record of 35.38 million international tourist arrivals, a year-on-year increase of 8.8% that generated tourism income of 1.8 trillion Baht, up by 11.66%. For this year, during January – September, the number of international arrivals to Thailand totalled 28.5 million, up by 8.7% over the same period of last year, while the revenue increased to nearly 1.5 trillion Baht, up by 11%.
Launched in visitor source markets around the globe, TAT’s Amazing Thailand ‘Open to the New Shades’ communication concept encourages visitors to Thailand to experience the destination through different perspectives, both new ones as well as existing ones.
The ‘Best Destination – Asia Pacific’ Readers’ Choice Award from Travel Weekly Asia joins an impressive list of prestigious titles Thailand has been honoured with in recent months.
These include Thailand being voted the world’s Best Country for People and third Best Country in the Conde Nast Traveller UK’s 2018 Readers’ Travel Awards; Thailand winning the Destination of the Year award at the 29th Annual TTG Travel Awards 2018, and Bangkok being named number one city in the world for the third year running in Mastercard’s 2018 Global Destination Cities Index.
The fourth edition of the travel trade publication’s annual Readers’ Choice Awards were given out on Monday during a gala event in Singapore. All in all, 56 awards were presented across 10 categories including Destination, Airline, Hotel, Resort, Travel Agent and Tourism Experience. The Awards celebrate organisations and suppliers whose outstanding performance has distinguished them from the competition and helped to set new industry standards.
