Bangkok, 22 February, 2020 – Thailand’s Tourism and Sports Minister Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn presided over the opening ceremony of the “40th Satun International Kite Festival”, which was held yesterday evening (21 February, 2020, from 19.45 Hrs.) at the Satun Air Force Base.
The event takes place over this weekend, from Friday, 21 February to Sunday, 23 February, 2020, from 14.00-22.00 Hrs. It is held under the theme of “Amazing Kite Land” featuring the wonders of traditional Thai kite flying in combination with modern light and sound techniques to offer new experiences to local and international visitors.
The Festival can be enjoyed in three zones with the “Kite Playground” featuring a colourful 30-metre kite tunnel and LED-kite sculptures and the “Sailom Playground” boasting a number of colourful wind spinners and light sculptures. There is a DIY zone for creative minds to learn how to make kites, wind spinners or boomerangs.
International kite teams from over 35 countries have also joined the event’s annual kite competitions in various categories, including the highest flown, the most unique, the most creative and the best sound.
The three-day Festival also features a Siam Andaman food fair, folk performance and music concerts.
