Thailand’s renowned “Surin Elephant Round-up” set for weekend of 21-22 November 2020

Programme of events to run from 12-23 November, featuring Thailand’s most majestic animals.

Bangkok, 09 November, 2020 – Each year the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is pleased to invite everyone to the world-famous “Surin Elephant Round-up” in the Northeastern province of Surin, which pays homage to the way of life, culture and tradition of the local Kui people and the longstanding relationship they have nurtured over the years with Thailand’s majestic elephants.

This year is particularly special for the Surin Elephant Round-up, scheduled for 12-23 November, as it marks the 60th anniversary of the event itself and also the 60th anniversary of TAT.

On 19 November at 08.00 Hrs. is a rehearsal of the elephant round-up at the Surin Elephant Show Stadium. This is followed at 18.30 Hrs. with a colourful competition of decorated floats and food for the elephants in front of the Phraya Surin Phakdi Si Narong Chang Wang Monument.

At 08.00 Hrs. on the following day, Friday 20 November, a world-famous buffet breakfast is put on for the elephants at the Phraya Surin Phakdi Si Narong Chang Wang Monument. Not just any feast, this is considered the largest of them all with the banquet table stretching for 400 metres and packed with food for over 250 elephants.

On 20-21 November a spectacular light and sound show will take place at Prasat Sikhoraphum, a Khmer temple in Prasat Sikhoraphum District of Surin, starting at 19.30 Hrs.

The actual Elephant Round-up, featuring a total of nine acts, is set for the weekend of 21-22 November at the Surin Elephant Show Stadium, beginning at 08.00 Hrs. In the evening is the Light and Sound Elephant Show at 18.00 Hrs.

Tickets for 21-22 November are priced at 300 Baht and 500 Baht for the Elephant Round-up, and 200 Baht for the Light and Sound Elephant Show. The rehearsal day on 19 November is free admission.
