Dignitaries and guests attend the launch of Thailand’s first Amazing Thailand Grand Diwali Festival

Bangkok, 20 October 2025 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), in partnership with government and private sector agencies, launched the Amazing Thailand Grand Diwali Festival 2025 yesterday (19 October 2025) at Phahurat (Little India). The event marks the start of a two-week programme celebrating Thai–Indian cultural ties from 16 to 31 October 2025 at Phahurat and Khlong Ong Ang.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Mr. Attakorn Sirilatthayakorn, Minister of Tourism and Sports, together with Ms. Paulomi Tripathi, Deputy Chief of Mission Embassy of India, Bangkok; Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor; and Mr. Sanon Wangsrangboon, Deputy Governor of Bangkok. The programme included a candle-lighting ceremony symbolising illumination and goodwill, accompanied by a coordinated sound-and-light display.

A Thai–Indian Ramayana performance was staged as part of the opening, combining classical Thai and Indian dance to convey the Diwali message of light prevailing over darkness. The first act, The Triumph of Good Over Evil, depicted the battle between Rama, Lakshmana, and Ravana; the second act, Return to the City, marked the homecoming of Rama and Sita; and the final act, Festival of Light, concluded with a Bollywood-inspired sequence.

The event also featured the Grand Procession of Exquisite Radiance, a parade highlighting Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Ganesha, and the festive spirit of Bollywood. Participants carried lotus offerings, garlands, parasols, and lanterns, accompanied by drummers and musicians, symbolising friendship and shared cultural celebration between Thailand and India.

The Amazing Thailand Grand Diwali Festival 2025 runs until 31 October, with daily light displays, cultural performances, workshops, and a Diwali Market at Phahurat and Khlong Ong Ang.
