Bangkok, 24 August 2026 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is staging the “Amazing Chiang Mai Green Guide Fest 2026” from 28–30 August at Railway Park in Chiang Mai, advancing the Chiang Mai Prototype to strengthen the tourism supply chain and support the province’s positioning as a global green destination. The three-day event will bring sustainable tourism to life through local products, gastronomy, business exchange, cultural performances and community activities, while applying Green Event practices to reduce environmental impact.

Mr. Nat Kruthasoot, TAT Deputy Governor for Tourism Products and Business, said, “Amazing Chiang Mai Green Guide Fest 2026 demonstrates how sustainability can become part of the complete tourism experience. By bringing together Chiang Mai’s creativity, culture, local wisdom, gastronomy and wellness with responsible business practices and community participation, the event is creating new value for visitors and local communities while strengthening the province’s potential as a global green destination. This is the direction TAT is pursuing: tourism that grows with greater value, stronger local participation and measurable environmental responsibility.”

Six activity zones will showcase sustainability through tourism products, local creativity, gastronomy, business exchange, community participation and cultural experiences.

The Sustainability Showcase will present standards and innovations including STGs STAR and CF-Hotels, supported by demonstrations and workshops on responsible tourism. Sustainable Local Wisdom (Art, Craft & Wellness) will feature local products and services that reflect Chiang Mai’s identity as a creative city, expressing community knowledge and character through contemporary craft, sustainable design and wellness. Sustainable Gastronomy will bring together more than 35 local food and beverage businesses, alongside a Farm-to-Table Showcase by local chefs, with 20 places available to visitors spending 500 Baht or more at the event.

The Sustainable Business Exchange will connect green tourism businesses and communities to exchange perspectives, build networks and develop sustainable tourism opportunities. Community & Sustainability Activity will invite visitors to complete a “Green Mission” by collecting stamps from activities across the event to earn special rewards, while demonstrating how sustainable practices can become an accessible part of everyday travel.

Eco-Friendly Music & Cultural Performance will feature two cultural performances daily, including Bo Sang umbrella dance, Fon Ngiao, Sabad Chai drumming, tea-leaf picking dance and Fon Oeng, alongside music by Goodvibes, Lawin and AongoCarrefour. Concerts will feature Serious Bacon and Khian Khai and Vanich on 28 August, T_047 and Mirrr on 29 August, and Earth Patravee and Moving and Cut on 30 August.

Ahead of the festival, TAT held the “Green Guide, New Vibes” forum on 21 August, bringing together Mr. Nat; Mr. Phiphat Aphirakthanakorn, sustainability expert and founder of ECOLIFE Platform; and Professor of Practice Dr. Seth Sampattagul, Chair of the LCA Talents Hub. The discussion examined how Chiang Mai’s natural assets, arts and culture, design and wellness tourism can be developed into sustainable tourism journeys and experiences.

In line with this approach, Amazing Chiang Mai Green Guide Fest 2026 is being managed as a Green Event and has received Carbon Neutral Event certification from the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization). Measures include waste reduction and separation, reduced and avoided plastic use, efficient resource management, and carbon-footprint management, with an estimated carbon footprint of 350 tonnes, around 50 per cent lower than the previous year’s event. EV shuttle services will also operate on two routes: San Pa Khoi Market–Railway Park and Kad Luang–Railway Park.

TAT expects at least 15,000 Thai and international visitors to attend over the three days, generating more than 20 million Baht in spending within the event and contributing more than 100 million Baht in tourism revenue across Chiang Mai.

TAT’s destination prototype approach forms part of the TAT-developed Sustainable Tourism Goals (STGs) framework. The Krabi Prototype was introduced in 2025 as a model for strengthening sustainable tourism standards, local participation and the tourism supply chain, with Amazing Krabi Green Guide Fest 2025 providing a public platform for sustainable products, businesses and visitor experiences. In 2026, TAT extended the approach through the Chiang Mai Prototype, working with government agencies, private-sector partners and local communities to upskill tourism businesses, encourage progress towards sustainability standards and support more balanced growth across the tourism supply chain.
