Thailand Vegetarian Festival 2017

Thailand – home to the largest overseas Chinese community in the world – is observing the annual Vegetarian Festival 2017 in honour of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej as the entire nation prepares to pay a final tribute to the beloved late King on the Royal Cremation Ceremony Day, on 26 October.

The Vegetarian Festival in Thailand is widely celebrated throughout the country, especially among the nine million Thai-Chinese population, who strictly observe a vegetarian or vegan diet for nine days and nights for the purposes of spiritual cleansing, merit-making, conferring good luck, and ensuring prosperity and long life.

This year, the event takes place from 20 to 28 October, 2017. Visitors will be able to experience the celebration distinguished by unique charms and characteristics in major cities including Bangkok, Samut Sakhon, Phuket, Hat Yai, Krabi, Trang, Phang Nga, as well as other cities throughout Thailand.
