Bangkok voted best city to celebrate Songkran

Bangkok, 10 April, 2014 – Bangkok has been named as the most affordable destination in Thailand to celebrate the Thai New Year (Songkran), according to TripAdvisor’s TripIndex Songkran 2014 survey.

The study, which took place during 25 March – 2 April, 2014, compared the travel expenses that could incur during the trip to celebrate in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Pattaya and Phuket.

Bangkok was singled out as the most affordable destination for a day out and an overnight stay during Songkran period with a total average spending of 3,357.56 baht per day. It would cost 5,154.06 baht a day to enjoy a day out and an overnight stay during Songkran in Phuket.

The estimated expenditure per day is based from a calculation of the combined cost of a night’s accommodation in a 4-4.5 star hotel, a hearty meal with a bottle of beer, a water gun and a water bucket to join in the Songkran festivities, a taxi transfer for 10km. and a 1-hour foot massage.

The study based its calculation with the nightly rate in a 4-4.5 start hotel in Bangkok at 2,684.22 baht, followed by Pattaya at 3,019.19 baht, Chiang Mai at 3,810.26 baht and Phuket at 4,438.72 baht. It based a cost of a 1-hour foot massage in Chiang Mai at 200 baht, Phuket at 283.33 baht, Bangkok at 326.67 baht and Pattaya at 366.67 baht.
