Bangkok, 24 March, 2016 – Bangkok figured high on TripAdvisor’s latest Travellers Choice awards coming in at 4th in Asia and 15th in the world. Announced earlier this week, Travellers’ Choice awards for destinations, recognise travellers’ favourite places worldwide.

Ms. Janice Lee Fang, Communications Director of TripAdvisor, Asia Pacific, said, “The Travellers’ Choice Destination Awards are amazing locales that are ranked globally based on traveller feedback and booking interest on TripAdvisor.”

The rankings take into account the quantity and quality of reviews for hotels, restaurants and attractions in destinations worldwide gathered over a year, and taking into account booking trends registered on TripAdvisor.

Bangkok came in 4th in the Asia awards for the second year running.

Asia’s top destinations of Siem Reap, Hanoi, Ubud in Bali and Bangkok also featured high in TripAdvisor’s world rankings coming in 5th, 8th, 10th and 15th, respectively.

Mr. Sugree Sithivanich, Deputy Governor for Marketing Communications, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), commented on this year’s rankings, “This is another endorsement that Bangkok continues to captivate visitors worldwide with its array of distinctive experiences.”

“I would like to thank all travellers for their continuing support that has helped us attain these awards. We are committed to delivering a complete travel experience for everyone visiting this amazing city.”

TripAdvisor has also identified top-rated hotels as well as popular tours, iconic attractions and upcoming events to offer travellers a glimpse into the great things they can discover when they visit these award-winning destinations.

In its evaluation of Bangkok’s travel experience, TripAdvisor noted that the Thai capital was one of the “busiest metropolises in the world famed for its vibrant sights and sounds” along with its food street culture, shopping, entertainment and cultural experiences as its most adhering features.

TripAdvisor’s top must-do cultural experience was a walk through temple cloisters at Wat Pho (Temple of the Reclining Buddha) “to appreciate the craftsmanship and elaborate details of one of Bangkok’s most exquisitely decorated Buddhist temples.”

The up-coming Songkran Water Festival, 13-15 April, is billed as the reason to book now.
